I don't feel that way about Mother's Day, however. Throughout all my life, it has been a special day to spend with my Mom and Grandmother. Actually, I'm still getting used to the idea of celebrating Mother's Day because I'm a mom.
Last year for my first Mother's Day I flew home and surprised my mom. I told her that her Mother's Day present was arriving via certified mail and that she needed to be home to sign for it. As the girl and I were arriving at my house, the mailman was on his way and agreed to play along and boy! did we surprised Mom.
This year I'll be in DC with the girl and the hubby and I honestly don't know if the husband has anything planned or not.
So here I am thinking that I don't want to have a bad Sunday because of Hallmark, but at the same time, after these last 17 months, I think I would like some kind of pampering one way or another. Being a mother has been one of the most fulfilling and stressful experiences in my life. I adore the girl but I certainly feel that I have given up a lot: my career, my figure, my personal space; so there lies the reason, I guess, of why I'd like some recognition.
What would I like for Mother's Day? Well, since my birthday is later this week and I've asked for a very expensive camera, I think a genuine effort from the husband to give me a nice day would be enough. Maybe a nice breakfast at home (mind you, by nice I mean Benedict eggs over creamy polenta and some sort of sauce reduction-the hubby can cook!) or a walk around the Mall (that's the National Mall) or, oh! I know what I want: Dim Sum!! and from the girl? Well, what I really, really want is for her to call me mama in her sweet little voice, since she hasn't done it yet (the same sweet voice she uses to call Daddy and doggy), but heck, if it doesn't happen, one of her big smiles will be enough!
